Sneak Peek: NARS Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself Book

Last week was a busy week for me but I managed to squeeze in time to attend a NARS event at Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge to celebrate the launch of the latest book by Francois Nars entitled 'Make Up Your Mind: Express Yourself'. After the success of the original 'Make Up Your Mind' book, the mastermind behind the NARS brand decided that now was a better time than any to release a new book but using real women and men as the models.
The first thing I thought of when I was told that all the faces in the book are people that Francois Nars knows personally or found just walking in the street was that this had been done. We all know that Bobbi Brown is the queen of picking random people off the street and making them up for her book. Hell, she's even created an entire campaign on it called "Pretty Powerful" so what exactly was going to be so different about this book?

Well, a lot.

The book is amazing as it breaks down all the makeup looks that you see on the models so you can recreate them at home. Still not convinced? Look at the picture below...

One of the fiercest looks in the book and probably not something that I would do on myself but Francois Nars took a woman who was just a normal person probably walking down the street and tranformed her in to a model. The page on the left shows the woman without any makeup on and in her own skin and the page on the right shows her all made up and looking absolutely fierce.
Some of you may be wondering what the doodles are all over the image on the left? Well, that is actually an acetate page that lies on top of the image on the right (the one all made up) and shows you exactly what makeup has been used where. It's so inventive and handy because without that, I would have had no idea on how to achieve a similar look.

Another look from the book that is completely opposite to the one we've seen previously where there was a strong use of colour and shape. There are so many different types of looks in the book that you will never be stuck for ideas on how to use colour or how not to use colour because it has all been broken down to make life simple.

The thing I love most about the book is the fact that all the models are different. They have different face shapes, different skin tones, different ethnicity and different ages. It is a book that would actually cater to everyone regardless of what colour skin they have or how old they are which is what I love most about it.

Another couple of images from the book:

I know that I will definitely be picking up this book when I get a chance because it is just such a handy book to have. Not only are there acetate pages in between each look to show you how to recreate it but at the end of each chapter, there are written notes on where to place each product and how to layer them to achieve the specific look. What more could you need?

Also, in conjunction with the new book, there are also 3 amazing sets out based on cheeks, lips and eyes that are so handy as they come with everthing you need.
The 'Cheeks' set is priced at £55.00 (has a value of £82.00 so major bargain) and comes with the following:

With all that to choose from the one question I have it, which one are you going to pick up!?

Until next time...
