I've been showing this product by Benefit some serious loving lately so I figured that it was high time that I gave it a little review on why :-)
Benefit 'Girl Meets Pearl' is a liquid pearl highlighter that can be used on top or underneath your makeup, or on bare skin if you like. There's no right or wrong way to apply it so you can dab away as much as you want.
It looks very similar in it's packaging to Benefit 'That Gal' Brightening Face Primer but this definitely has more of a dewy finish to it and isn't a primer as such.
The outer packaging
The actual product
So you can see that it has a twisty bottom bit, much like the brightening face primer, which is probably the only part of the product that I don't like. Mine takes a good 10 twists before any product starts to come through the top and there's always that worry that I'll be one too many twists from having too much product coming out. Maybe it's just my one that does it, I'm not sure. Minus the lid
The teeny tiny squares are good because it means that not a lot of product can come out in one go but I'm always a bit worried that it'll spill out.
That's how much product I had after about 10 twists (I kid you not!) and a bit of shaking to make sure that something was actually on it's way out and not just stuck...
With that being said... I think that much product is enough to highlight the cheeks which is exactly what I use the product for. Too much and my face would be a bit too 'highlighted'.

Review:
One of the first things that you'll notice about the product once you apply it to your face will be the smell. Now, I'm a big fan of sweet smelling fragrances and anything that mildly smells like bubblegum or candyfloss so this was right up my street. It smells a bit like strawberries and cream or is it is strawberry bubblegum? It's a bit hard to place but it's definitely between those two...
Like I mentioned earlier, the good thing about this product is that you can apply it at any stage in your makeup routine. You can apply it before your foundation/tinted moisturiser or after your foundation and before your blush. Hell, you can even use it instead of a blush and foundation... It'll simply add a teeny tiny amount of colour and nice dash of highlight.
The product contains raspberry and chamomile which are known for their soothing properties and sweet almond seed which is known for its firming & smoothing properties. There's also a dash of sesame seed oil in the product which is known for its moisturising properties. Now if that isn't a multipurpose product then I don't know what is!!
If you wanted to use this product all over your face and under your foundation then I probably wouldn't recommend setting your foundation with a powder. I've tried it under my foundation and it did give a very pretty glow without making me look like I was too glow-y. However, when I then set my foundation with a very sheer powder, the glow disappeared and there was no sign of the sheen that I was getting.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this product to all of you readers and especially those who are after a multipurpose product that can be worn under or on top of their every day makeup. I know that some people are a tad put off by the sweet scent but it really didn't phase me so I'm sure the rest of you can look past it too.
Girl Meets Pearl is available now and is priced at £24.50

Loving it all until I saw the price! Damn that is way expensive compared to Mac's cream highlighters!
ReplyDeleteI know.. That's another downside to it. It is quite steep considering you can pick up a MAC Cream Colour Base for half the price. I wish it wasn't so damn expensive!

This looks gorgeous. I've been considering buying Moon Beam for a while but this looks easier to apply and less likely to result in make-up bag disasters! x
