NOTD: ELF 'Lilac' & Matte Finisher

Hey all!

There's been quite a few NOTD posts at the moment so I thought I'd throw another one into the mix. I was sent these nailpolishes to play with and I'm still on the fence about them and whether or not I like them.

This is LILAC by ELF (Eyes Lips Face):

It took 3 (or was it 4?) coats to get an opaque finish with this shade. In the packaging it looks creamy and that it wouldn't need as many coats. However, the first coat goes on so sheer that you have no choice but to slap on another 2 (or 3?) coats to get a polished look. On the other hand, they do dry super quickly so it doesn't take as long between coats.
Being the anti-lilac girl that I am, I was pleasantly surprised that this number isn't an obvious looking lilac... If you know what I mean.

LILAC topped with the MATTE FINISHER:

I love the matte finisher! Everyone seems to be jumping on the matte trend at the moment with Essie and No.7 both having matte finish top coats available but I think that this ELF one is definitely a contender for the top spot purely because of it's price! I mean, £1.50 isn't really going to break the bank now is it?

The only problem that I had with both of these products is the brush. I don't know if it was just mine but the bristles are different lengths :-S First I thought that they were meant to be like that but I actually don't think they are. There are a few stray bristles that are longer than the rest which is a bit annoying because they're the culprits of the streaks on application. It's not a MAJOR deal but just something I noticed. I'm not sure if that's the case with all the nail polishes but it was with the 2 that I've got.

Overall:
I think that for the price and quality of these nailpolishes, ELF is defintely on toa winner. Besides from the dodgy bristles on the brushes, there isn't anything else that I can find wrong with them. I have a feeling that it's just the LILAC shade that I've got that goes on sheer with the first coat but the rest of the products in the range would probably be okay after 2 coats.

Update: The staying power of this number wasn't too bad but I did kind of expect more. It lasted 3 days before I saw any signs of tip wear and 5 before I had any blatant chipping so it wasn't too bad at all. I hardly ever keep the same nail colour on for longer than 5 days (if that) because I can't stand tip wear, let alone hardcore chipping! I do wonder if all the nailpolishes are of this same quality or if they're a bit 'hit and miss'. I'll keep you posted!

The nailpolishes are available now and from the ELF site which is HERE.

What are your ELF must haves? Is there anything you'd recommend that I pop into my basket? Let me know!!

Until next time...
